From Local Story to Newsletter and Social Video: A Regional Newsroom Pilots Its Editorial Workflow on maravilla.cloud
Basel, Switzerland, 30 July 2026. A regional news publisher in southern Germany is piloting an editorial application built on maravilla.cloud. It takes a local story from research to publication on its website, in its newsletter and on social media, in one interface.
The application was built on the platform in about two weeks: its first commit was made on 2 July, and live publishing to the newsroom's website followed on 10 July. It uses the Maravilla runtime's platform services end to end and is the first production use of Maravilla Frames, the platform's service for rendering videos from web pages.
One Story, Many Channels
A small local newsroom publishes the same story on its website, on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook and in a weekly newsletter. Each channel needs its own text and format, and short videos have become part of the job. For a small team, that repetition takes time away from reporting.
What the Newsroom Uses
- Editorial board: A Kanban pipeline with AI-drafted texts for each channel, separate approval per channel, and live presence showing who is working on what.
- Sources: Research from RSS feeds and websites, with configurable extraction.
- Newsletter: An editor for each issue, with stories arranged by drag and drop and a live preview of the email.
- Social video: Animated videos in 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9, previewed in the browser and rendered to MP4, with a German voice-over, an editable pronunciation dictionary and background music that lowers automatically under speech.
- Publishing: Direct publishing to the newsroom's WordPress website, including featured images.
- Branding: Logo, typeface and colours defined once and applied to the application, the newsletter and the videos.
The Platform Underneath
The application uses maravilla.cloud's authentication, document database, key-value store, file storage, events, durable workflows, realtime presence, headless browser rendering and Maravilla Frames. Text drafts are generated through a language model served by Groq. The German voice-over is synthesized in the browser, so no audio has to be sent to an external speech service.
Introducing Maravilla Frames
Maravilla Frames renders videos from ordinary web pages. A video is described as HTML and CSS with a timeline, previewed live in the browser and rendered on the platform to MP4, including an audio mix of voice and music. Because the preview and the rendered file come from the same page, what an editor sees is what gets exported.
Frames has been available to maravilla.cloud applications since June as the @maravilla-labs/frames package. In the newsroom application, rendering runs as a durable workflow, so long renders survive restarts and report their progress.
A Pilot
The application is currently a pilot for one editorial team. AI-drafted texts are proposals that editors review and approve before anything is published.
Also in July: Astro
On 28 July, the Maravilla runtime added an adapter and command-line support for Astro. Astro joins SvelteKit, React Router 7 and Nitro-based frameworks as a supported way to build applications for maravilla.cloud.
